What we are doing
HOT SUN FILMS and HOT SUN FOUNDATION (registered as a charitable trust in Nairobi, Kenya) are the only organizations located in Kibera, east Africa’s largest slum, that focus on social transformation through art and media. Over a million people, mostly children and youth live in Kibera, located in Nairobi, Kenya.
We currently have two major projects underway: the TOGETHERNESS SUPREME feature film and the KIBERA FILM SCHOOL.
HOT SUN FILMS is collaborating with talented residents of Kibera to produce a global first – TOGETHERNESS SUPREME, a feature film made in an African slum. TOGETHERNESS SUPREME is a story of hope and reconciliation in Kibera, following the 2007-2008 post election violence in Kenya.
HOT SUN FOUNDATION started the KIBERA FILM SCHOOL in August 2009. At the KIBERA FILM SCHOOL, youth from Kibera learn scriptwriting, acting, camerawork, design, social networking, editing, production, and distribution. Professionals from the film and TV industry in Kenya are sharing their experience and skills with Kibera youth. Youth who had never even seen a camera up close are becoming accomplished filmmakers.
